Inaugural Release
Introducing our inaugural release of winter varietals and labels.
1870 Reserve
On a little wooden bridge in the northeast corner of the Monmouth College campus, the idea for Kappa Kappa Gamma was born. That now-famous conversation between Mary Louise “Lou” Bennett and Hannah Jennette “Jennie” Boyd was more than just a passing fancy. It was the start of something big.
The 1870 Reserve honors our founding and the six trailblazing women who sought to create something bold. This proprietary red blend – from our award-winning winemaker Todd Heth – exhibits dark blackberry, bing cherry, and plum notes perfectly into layers of coffee and tobacco. The finish is dry with long-lasting berry fruit. Silky but firm tannins, this wine is enjoyable now but has the ability to age well in the cellar. We raise a glass of the 1870 Reserve and are so grateful for 152 years of Kappa sisterhood.
Oh Pat!
Whether you circle up with your Kappa sisters, stomp your feet, or clap your hands, you probably feel a wave of Kappa nostalgia when it’s time for “Oh Pat!”
Kappa Archivist/Museum Director Kylie Towers Smith, Simpson, says: “No matter how you Pat it … it’s Kappa enthusiasm, dedication and sisterhood all wrapped up in one traditional (but always fun) song.”
The Oh Pat! chardonnay is perfect for life’s special moments — big or small — and will inspire you to relive your Kappa days. Hailing from the cool and foggy climate for the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, this beautiful medium-bodied wine was grown slowly to build intense flavors over time. This wine was aged in French oak and displays a beautiful balance of fruit, oak and liveliness on the palate and exhibits lush mango and toasted almond. Balanced fruit with tarte acidity makes this wine a classic example of Premium Russian River Chardonnay.
Sapphire
The sapphire was chosen as the Fraternity jewel in 1890 — a symbol of truth, sincerity and constancy. Our little golden key adorned with blue stones is one of the most popular badge choices. The sapphire was a classic choice, for in the lore of precious stones, its royal blue hue embodies the spirits of light and wisdom.
Pop open this bubbly and enjoy life’s special moments with a toast or bring an extra sparkle to everyday moments. This premium sparkling wine – meticulously and artfully made in the traditional champagne method – rivals anything found from the best Champagne houses in Épernay and Reims. Blended superbly with 100% Chardonnay, this magnificent Napa Valley Blanc de Blancs exhibits beautiful green apple and tropical notes that follow through in the mouth with a smooth fine mousse. This wine finishes with refreshing, lingering light tropical flavors that beg for another sip.
